Winners of this year’s competition ‘Teach with GIS’ announced

A virtual award ceremony marked the end of this year’s project Teach with GIS, within which GDi has so far given high schools in Croatia 2.000 free licences for ArcGIS Online for students and teachers. The competition has brought contemporary geoinformation tools even closer to the high school students.

Through Esri ArcGIS StoryMaps, students have gained an opportunity to create their own stories on a range of topics of their own choice and win valuable prizes for their schools – laptop, tablet, and a wireless weather station.
There were a total of 52 StoryMaps from schools across Croatia, and the winning StoryMap was Urban Orchids in Istria, created by students Saša Krajnović and Ines Dukić, under the mentorship of Ira Maslovar from Gimnazija Pula.
Students from Vladimir Prelog Science School took the second place with their StoryMap History and Development of Public Transport in the City of Zagreb, while Antunovac Municipality. Teacher Ika Pauk from Vladimir Prelog Science School won a special prize for motivating her students – she was a mentor in as many as 40 submissions.

”As an internationally recognized technology company, GDi wants to share its resources and experience with the community. Thus, since spring 2021, we gave teachers and students in Croatian high schools an opportunity to learn with ‘cloud’ geoinformation technologies and Esri ArcGIS platform. This initiative is a continuation of long-term GDi activities within the ‘GDi for STE(A)M’ programme. Through it, we provide students with knowledge, data and technologies with which they will, we hope, create a better future for all of us.”, said Boran Lončarić, president and CEO of GDi Group.

You can find out more information about the project on the website Teach with GIS, and all interested schools can get involved in the programme for free by filling out the form.
