With profound sadness, yet filled with pride and gratitude for the privilege of sharing over three decades with our esteemed colleague, Andrej Lončarić, we invite you to join us in commemorating his life, work, and enduring legacy.

Andrej Lončarić, MSc in Geology, Faculty of Mining, Geology and Petroleum Engineering, University of Zagreb, and MBA graduate from Henley School of Management, stood as one of the foremost experts in GIS technology and strategic business in Europe and the world. His remarkable career spanned over 30 years and was marked by dedication, expertise and a profound impact on the Esri GIS community and beyond.

Andrej Lončarić’s legacy is more than his professional accomplishments. He embodied the essence of humanity, compassion, and visionary leadership.
The wider community will especially remember his outstanding contributions in the field of disaster response, mainly after the floods in Bosnia and Herzegovina in 2015, the devastating earthquake in Durrës, Albania in 2019, the earthquakes in Zagreb and Petrinja, Croatia, in 2020 as well as in providing the public with vital information during the Covid pandemic.

Andrej was particularly happy to have led our GDi for Education – Teach with GIS program, as a result of which over a hundred primary and secondary schools in Croatia gained the opportunity to work with GIS technologies. This resulted in many extraordinary school projects which proved that children have the power and capacity to change their community for the better with the power of STE(A)M.

We express our profound gratitude to Andrej for his invaluable leadership, mentorship, and unwavering dedication to GDi’s mission. His profound influence has touched the lives of over one hundred thousand of GDi professional users across Central and South-Eastern Europe as well as globally, leaving an indelible mark on the geospatial profession and the development of applications, some of which were used by millions.
